On Thursday (May 10), the hottest spot in Los Angeles just happened to be in the much-maligned valley where George Clooney welcomed President Barack Obama and a gaggle of Obama’s A-listy supporters to his Studio City home for a fundraising dinner.
The $40,000-a-head campaign event raised more than $15 million dollars for Obama’s war chest, one of the biggest single-event takes in campaign history.
Approximately half of the cash came from celebrity attendees, including Jeffrey Katezenberg, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Barbra Streisand and husband James Brolin, Salma Hayek, Tobey Maguire and designers Diane Von Furstenberg and Trina Turk. Clooney’s main squeeze, Stacy Keibler, was also on hand.
The remainder of the funds were raised via an online sweepstakes, which chose two random Obama donors to attend the event. Beth Topinka and Karen Blutcher won the contest.
