You won’t see them on Lea Michele‘s “Glee” character Rachel Berry, but Michele herself has some serious ink under those cardigans and knee socks. Visiting David Letterman to promote Tuesday’s “Glee” Season 3 finale, Lea revealed her secret tattoo addiction.
She’s got fourteen different ones, including musical notes, a cross, writing on her rib, a gold star for her character, a bird, a butterfly, the word “Imagine” to match her co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale, lyrics from a “Spring Awakening” song — and many more.
Lea explains that she often gets tattoos with her family. “I come from a very big Italian family, and tattoos are very popular,” she says. “We’ll be like, ‘Let’s all get tattoos.’ Then we get super sentimental, and then the next day I wake up with,
like, another butterfly on my foot. And I’m like, it seemed more
important in the moment.”
They even went to a tattoo parlor to celebrate Easter, of all things. “Some people go hunting for eggs,” she told Letterman. “We go get tattoos.”
She may be done getting tattoos now — because she’s run out of real estate on her body! “All my secret hidden spots are done!” she laughs.
