“Oh my goth,” Katy Perry tweeted
about her dramatic stage entre and equally eye-catching ensemble Thursday (May 10) at the NARM Music Business Awards in Los Angeles.
Appearing amidst a billowing cloud of smoke with two spotlights behind her to illuminate the darkness, the pop singer made a rock star entrance to accept her award for Artist Of The Year.
Some Christian bloggers were appalled with Perry’s dark look, claiming she’s forgotten her Christian roots.
“For impressionable young women and men, they can send the wrong
message,” writes Nicole Weider in the Christian Post. “It makes me question whether
Perry has forgotten her Christian roots. It’s as if she doesn’t care
anymore about being a good role model.”
The news site described Perry’s ensemble: “Perry’s black dress had revealing strips, which showed a fair amount of
skin. She also wore a Catholic rosary around her neck and painted her
nails in a black French manicure with dark purplish red lipstick to
finish the look.”
The 27-year-old was honored at the annual music business conference along with singer Lionel Richie
was also an award-recipient at the event, honored with the Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement for his solo work and as a member of the Commodores. In attendance at the ceremony were singers Brandy
and Lisa Marie Pressley, and DJ Cassidy.
