First Lady Michelle Obama stopped by “The Daily Show” Tuesday evening (May 29) to talk about her new book, “American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America.” While, there, she and host Jon Stewart talk about getting their kids to eat healthy and combating childhood obesity.
“The garden is a way to begin the conversation. What I also learned in changing my kids’ habits, is that if kids are involved in the growth process of food and they get a better understanding of where their food comes from … they’re more likely to be excited about it,” says Michelle. “It has been a really important catalyst for that discussion. We’ve had hundreds of kids working with us in the garden to help plant and harvest. And usually with the harvest, we end with a vegetable feast.”
In the second half of the interview, Stewart talks about her very high approval rating, which is quite a bit higher than the President’s. Stewart wonders how she doesn’t use that with Barack at home.
“No, no, I don’t wield it over him,” Michelle laughs. “The truth is … I’ve seen what it takes to be President. I kind of watch this thing pretty closely. The President is getting al the hard decisions, where there’s no easy answer … really when it comes down to it, when you’re making those judgment calls, all you have is your character, your value, your vision for this country. And I see him being so consistent in disregarding the chatter and the noise and really moving forward towards a country where there’s more equity, more fairness … that’s hard work.”
And then they hilariously talk about “Uncle” Joe Biden and whether it’s hard to raise children around him. Heh.
