It sounds like “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips’ surgery to remove the kidney stones that plagued him all season on “Idol” went a little rougher than was expected. TMZ is reporting that the surgery lasted over six hours and involved a complication with a stent previously placed in his body.
The stent was placed in Phillips’ kidney to help with the stones until he could have surgery to remove them, but it was in there so long it embedded itself in his body and had to be cut out with a laser. But the doctors do say the surgery was a success.
Currently, Phillips is recovering in the Malibu home of an unknown “American Idol” bigwig. He hopes to be ready for the “Idol” tour that kicks off July 6.
“”If I can sing with all those kidney stones in me, I can make the first date,” says Phillips.
