“Scary Movie 5” is apparently a reality. Six years after the last movie in the franchise hit theaters, The Weinstein Company announced that Ashley Tisdale is set to star in the franchise’s next installment, replacing Anna Faris, who starred in the first four films.
Tisdale, 26, is best known for her supporting role in Disney’s “High School Musical” movies. No additional cast members have been announced, though a press release did describe Tisdale as just “one of the leads,” reports CinemaBlend.
The movie already has a release date — January 11, 2013 — and a director, Malcolm Lee, who replaces David Zucker.
Faris, who has been on an upward career trajectory since the last “Scary Movie,” with breakout roles in “The House Bunny” and “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” talked about a potential “Scary Movie” return when she was promoting her part in Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest movie, “The Dictator.”
“No, I don’t think I’m going to do it,” said Faris. “I don’t think I’m part of that. I don’t know exactly what’s happening with it, but I hear it’s sort of in the works and stuff.”
