If the upcoming film “CBGB” is in need of a subject matter expert on being a rock star, they’ll have to look no further than their own cast.
The movie, which will focus on New York’s punk scene, has signed Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins to play rock legend Iggy Pop, this according to the Hollywood Reporter. Hawkins joins an already impressive cast that includes Alan Rickman, Rupert Grint and Johnny Galecki. Malin Ackerman also recently signed on to play Debbie Harry in the film.
The picture focuses on CBGB founder Hilly Kristal as he attempts to turn the nightclub into a haven for rock music. The venue was founded in 1973 and stayed in its spot in The Bowery in New York until it closed in 2006. During that time, it helped kick off the musical careers of such stars as The Ramones, The Talking Heads and Blondie.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in Georgia on June 25. After that it will move on to New York.
