With the Season 2 premiere of MTV’s latest hit series “Awkward” just weeks away, the show’s star Brett Davern took some time off to enjoy a night of gilded popcorn at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards.
Rolling solo, the young actor says he was most looking forward to seeing Johnny Depp receive the MTV Generation Award at the event Sunday night (June 3). Depp was honored by Aerosmith’s Joe Perry and Steven Tyler and played guitar alongside the Black Keys on the song “Lonely Boy.”
“I’m such a Johnny Depp fan. Even though it’s a huge room, just being in the same room as him is pretty overwhelming,” Davern tells Zap2It. “He’s such an amazing actor and the choices he makes are very interesting. It’s not even the choices he makes for projects, but the choices as an actor in those projects. Everything from his first stuff in ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street,’ and then ‘Edward Scissorhands‘ was so quirky and beautiful.”
Davern also confessed he was excited about watching presentation of the Best Kiss Award (which went to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson) and described what he thought would be the ultimate smooch.
“You gotta have some passion, and it helps if the characters have been building up to it for a while,” he explains. “Grabbing the face, that’s good too.”
As for his “Awkward” character’s budding romance, Davern says the next edition will pick up right where season one left off, watching Jake and Jenna test out their stakes as a new couple with a few hurdles in the path.
“I think Jake’s a good boyfriend; he knows how to do it,” Davern says. “They’re together and there’s going to be awkward moments. And of course, how does Jenna deals with Matty, and does Jake find out about Matty, and all those kinds of things. It’s going to be a bumpy ride and I think the fans will like how they get through it.”
He adds, “Jake’s a great guy. He’s charming and funny, and he’s smart and likable; I hope I’m all these things too. But he’s got a sensitive side and I think we’re going to see that more this year.”
The next season of “Awkward” premieres June 28 on MTV.
