And the changes just keep on coming! We’re beginning to wonder if Season 2 of “Smash” will resemble its first season at all — though, in this case, we’re thinking that change is a very good thing. New showrunner Josh Safran of “Gossip Girl” fame (or infamy, depending on which ‘shippers you’re polling) has added yet another new series regular to a rapidly growing cast.
This time, “Smash” has tapped Andy Mientus, whose musical theater talents are well documented, as he starred in the “Spring Awakening” U.S. tour. TVLine reports that Mientus will play Kyle — a guy from Brooklyn who is going through some financial struggles as he pursues his dream of writing for Broadway.
Mientus joins a whole lot of other new musical talent that’s arriving in Season 2. He’ll appear alongside Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson and “Newsies” star Jeremy Jordan, who will be playing Kyle’s best friend.
“Smash” is also looking to add one more regular cast member to play Courtney, an African-American chorus member in her mid- to late-20s with a strong voice and an open mind.
