“Ghost the Musical” got a little bit of performance time carved out at the 66th Annual Tony Awards despite not being nominated for Best Musical. The performance was a mash-up of “Unchained Melody” and a “Ghost” original song, but it may not have been enough of a taste to engage viewers not already familiar with the show.
The musical, based on the iconic 1990 film starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, was one of 40 new shows that opened this season. The premise for the show is the same as the flick: Sam is killed when he and and Molly are mugged. Sam is stuck as a ghost between this world and the next when he learns Molly is in danger.
The musical is nominated for three awards: Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical.
