When “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg joined Twitter back in May 2011, it was a grudging move. She secured the name so that an imposter wouldn’t take it, but didn’t plan to actively tweet. That’s all changed. In an announcement on Thursday’s (June 21) show, Goldberg said she’s ready to embrace the social networking site.
“I need to start things off by telling y’all that right before the show I did something I’ve never done before,” said Goldberg. “But wanted to do and found it was something I needed to do and so you can, if you want to follow me on Twitter, I am now actually twittering.”
“Stop the presses,” says a stunned Sherri Shepherd.
Whoopi goes on to explain that recent guests Arsenio Hall and Justin Bieber convinced her to give Twitter a try.
“It feels like the best way to let people know what’s going on,” she says. “And people say an awfully lot of strange things about us individuals — so it felt like the right thing to do. I’m in the 21st century now and scared as hell.”
