If you aren’t a fan of British humor, then half of the funny of Rowan Atkinson — aka Mr. Bean’s — appearance at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics may have been lost on you.
The incredibly expressive actor/comedian appeared in the midst of the spectacle accompanying the London Symphony Orchestra in a rendition of the Olympics-appropriate theme from “Chariots of Fire.” Mr. Bean was seated at a piano and managed to keep playing while simultaneously blowing his nose, talking on a cell phone and weilding an umbrella.
A clip of Mr. Bean running down the beach in the famous “Chariots of Fire” scene was then shown as the music plays. Hilarious, right?
Director Danny Boyle, watching along, tweeted “Proud to be British,” as the Olympiad’s opening extravaganza unfolded with everything from livestock to a nod to David Bowie.
