Andy Roddick celebrated his 30th birthday Thursday (Aug. 30) by announcing that he’s retiring from tennis at the end of the 2012 U.S. Open.
“I’ve decided that this is going to be my last tournament,” he says in a press conference. “I just feel like it’s time.”
“I don’t feel like I’m healthy enough or committed enough to go another year,” he adds.
The last American man to win a Grand Slam title, Roddick has won more than $20 million in his career and is currently ranked No. 22 in the world. He is scheduled to play a second-round match at the U.S. Open on Friday against Australia’s Bernard Tomic.
