Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” is on track for a three-peat at the box office this weekend with estimates that it’ll pull in $36 million, adding to the film’s $354 million in North America and $570 million worldwide.
Meanwhile, “Total Recall,” Sony’s remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger flick, nabbed $9.2 million on its first day in theaters. Colin Farrell fills Schwarzenegger’s hefty shoes in the sci-fi film, which is playing in 3,601 theaters.
Rounding out the top five movies so far this weekend are Fox’s just-opened “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days,” which raked in $6 million for Friday and is estimated to make $17 million for the weekend; “Ice Age: Continental Drift,” which brought in about $8 million; and “The Watch,” earning $6 million.
