Forbes Magazine has released its 2012 list of the 100 most powerful women in the world — and some of the placements may surprise you. First of all, the No. 1 slot went to 58-year-old Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany.
At No. 2? U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has stayed off the campaign trail this year and is instead focusing on her final months in her current office. (And maybe spending a little time on Tumblr, like the rest of us.)
A few more interesting names feature close to the top of the list. FLOTUS Michelle Obama comes in at No. 7 on the list, below Melinda Gates and Jill Abramson, the EIC of the New York Times.
At No. 10 is Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, who ranks one spot above Oprah Winfrey. Lady Gaga is the highest-ranking artist on the list; she’s at 14, with the next-highest artist being Beyonce Knowles at 32.
Sofia Vergara, at No. 75, is new to the list this year. Check out the full details here.
