Perhaps the very first celebrity chef, Julia Child was on 13 different television cooking programs between the debut of “The French Chef” in 1963 and her two-hour 2000 special “Julia Child’s Kitchen Wisdom.” The statuesque cook would have turned 100 years old on Wednesday (Aug. 15).
In honor of her 100th birthday, Google created a food-based Doodle of Child, which is fun, though not interactive. PBS really pulled out all the stops by remixing some of her segments into a delightful video.
Child was married to Paul Cushing Child for 48 years, until his death in 1994. They never had any children. Julia passed away 10 years later, just two days before her 92nd birthday. She ended her last book with the line, “Thinking back on it now reminds that the pleasures of the table, and of life, are infinite – toujours bon apptit!”
