The NFL will kick off its season on Sept. 5 with a little help from two of pop music’s bigger names.
Mariah Carey and No Doubt will perform live during NBC’s NFL kickoff special prior to the season-opening game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. The special airs at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 5, an hour before the game.
The NFL, incidentally, moved the season opener from its traditional Thursday spot this year so as not to conflict with the close of the Democratic convention the following night.
Carey, recently hired as an “American Idol” judge, and No Doubt both have new music to promote at the NFL concert (they’ll perform at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, not at MetLife Stadium). Carey’s new single “Triumphant (Get ‘Em)” debuted earlier this month, and No Doubt has seemingly been everywhere lately in advance of the release of their new album, “Push and Shove.”
