May/Walsh defeated fellow U.S. Olympians Jennifer Kessy and April Ross in straight sets Wednesday (Aug. 8) to make it three gold medals in a row. Both sets started out as back-and-forth, with the first set knotted at 12 and the second at nine points. But in each set, May/Walsh opened a bit of a lead when the points hit the teens and that was all they needed to win 21-16, 21-16.
Can we expect to see May/Walsh go for four in Rio 2016? Probably not, as they had already been talking about retirement prior to London 2012. But one never knows. They still have only dropped one set in their illustrious Olympic career.
This was the first Olympic Games for Kessy, 35, and Ross, 30, as they have only been playing together since 2008. Perhaps we’ll see them go for the gold four years from now.
