Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is going into rehab following an onstage meltdown at a music festival over the weekend.
The band’s rep tells the AP that Armstrong, 40, is seeking treatment for substance abuse, though no further details are available. Armstrong has acknowledged some past drug use but has said he’s been clean for some time.
The news comes two days after Armstrong went on a rant at the end of Green Day’s set at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. As the band’s set was winding down, Armstrong cut off an old song, then started a new one before realizing they only had about a minute left.
“You’re going to give me on f***ing minute?” he shouted (you can watch the full rant here). “… I’m not f***ing Justin Bieber, you motherf***ers.”
The band’s rep also says Green Day wants to apologize “to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival” and that Clear Channel, which put on the festival, didn’t cut them off.
