Jeff’s deadbeat dad is finally making an appearance on “Community” during Season 4. Who will play the man who helped create Jeff Winger (Joel McHale)? No, not Bill Murray, as many fans had hoped, or Eddie Murphy, as McHale suggested, but someone pretty great nonetheless — James Brolin.
McHale broke (half) the news when a picture of the two on his Twitter account on Tuesday, Sept. 18, and Entertainment Weekly confirmed the news with “Community’s” producers. William Winger will first appear in the comedy’s Thanksgiving episode, called “Cooperative Escapism in Familial Relations,” which features the study group sharing an awkward meal at Shirley’s (Yvette Nicole Brown) house while Jeff has an awkward time of his own at his dad’s house.
Brolin’s episode will air in November.
“On set at #Community with the great, terrific, & cool #JamesBrolin,” McHale wrote when he posted the photo. Brown got a picture of her own with the actor, and hinted earlier in the day that McHale was filming an emotional scene, writing, “@joelmchale just made me cry. And for the first time it wasn’t from teasing. ;) #WonderfulActingBuddy!” Could Jeff’s daddy issues finally break that cool exterior?
“Community” moves to its new time slot on Friday, Oct. 19 at 8:30 p.m..
