Talk-show host David Letterman was one of the many targets Mitt Romney hit (including 47 percent of Americans) during his secretly recorded comments at a Republican fundraiser in May.
In the video leaked this week, Romney quips, “Now Letterman hates me because I’ve been on Leno more than him; they’re very jealous of each other, as you know.”
But Letterman begs to differ, and responded to the presidential candidate’s remarks on the “Late Show” Wednesday night (Sept. 19)
“I don’t hate Mitt,” the funnyman insisted.
“I think now more than ever he and his lovely life, Mrs. Mitt, are more than welcome to come on the show,” he said. “I’m telling you, if you think you’re going to get to the White House you gotta spend time on this chair.”
Clarifying further, Letterman joked: “I certainly don’t hate Mitt because he’s been on the Leno show more than [mine]…why hate a guy who’s suffered through that?”
So far Romney has not responded to Letterman’s public invitation, but “Mrs. Mitt” is scheduled to join Leno on “The Tonight Show” Sept. 25.
