Just like the baby bikini onesie sparked outrage among some parents in July, Jessica Simpson’s photo of her 4-month-old daughter, Maxwell Drew Johnson, wearing a homemade yellow two-piece over her diaper isn’t getting the intended “awwwww” from everyone.
During her appearance on Katie Couric’s new talk show on Monday (Sept. 10) to debut her own figure after losing 40 pregnancy pounds, Simpson showed off a picture of her baby girl, sporting an adorable pout and a teeny bikini.
“It is very disturbing to see a young baby presented to the world wearing a bikini,” Claude Knights, the director of British child welfare agency Kidscape, tells the UK’s Daily Mail. “Celebrity choices carry great influence, as can be seen by the manner in which their accessories and behaviors are copied widely. It is to be hoped that parents will understand that ‘baby bikinis’ are totally inappropriate, and that they contribute to the sexualization and commercialization of childhood. We should not be compromising the sanctity of our children’s early years.”
Do you think putting a baby in a bikini is inappropriate? Should Simpson have picked a different picture to show off?
