In a recent magazine interview, Kim Kardashian mused about one day getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
That won’t be happening anytime soon. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Walk of Fame, isn’t interested in having her join the pantheon.
The background: In a profile for V magazine, Kardashian discusses her “famous for being famous” image and says reality shows like hers have in some ways supplanted soap operas as water-cooler fodder. Asked if she thinks she could ever reach the level of respect for actresses like Susan Lucci or Lucille Ball (the magazine’s suggestions), she has this to say:
“I think there was a quote where somebody said that reality stars will never get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. So, of course I’m so competitive that I think that it would be a huge achievement and a goal that anyone would want. I would love to break that mold.”
Not so fast, though. A spokesperson for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce tells The Hollywood Reporter that “part of [the] criteria in being honored is receiving awards such as Emmys, SAG Awards, Oscars, etc., in the category of television, live stage performance or motion pictures. They have to have a career in the business of acting for five years or more.”
As for whether reality stars might someday get their own category on the Walk of Fame, the spokesperson says it’s “not on our radar right now.”
