Ready for one of the nuttiest reality TV concepts we’ve heard lately? Lifetime will premiere “My Life is a Lifetime Movie” Oct. 17 at 10 p.m. ET.
According to the network, the show will have a “fresh and irreverent tone” as it “weave[s] together highly cinematic recreations and first person interviews with women in peril who recount their jaw-dropping experiences that are so astonishing and so unbelievable, that they must be true.” Seriously.
Basically, it sounds like a sly way to unearth guilty pleasure titles like “My Stepson, My Lover,” “Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?,” “The Pregnancy Pact,” “Betty Broderick: A Woman Scorned,” “Mom at 16” and “A Date with Darkness,” and match them up with women’s actual lives. Last we checked, Maury Povich does this on a regular basis, but the Lifetime brand gives it that extra layer of class… or something.
Among the stories on tap for the seven episode first season: “an attractive young teacher whose life is turned upside down by an overzealous student’s shocking accusations of sexual misconduct” and “a determined mother who took on a small town to save her daughter’s reputation when she gets dragged into a sexting scandal.”
Maybe if one of these episodes blows up in the ratings, the network can adapt it into a full-length movie of its own. Ah, the circle of Lifetime.
