“Our contracts end at [Season] 8, so it’s one of those, you know, if they want to do 9, they’re welcome to, but we have a lot of other things [happening],” Harris tells AccessHollywood.com.
His comments echo those of “HIMYM” creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, who told reporters Tuesday (Sept. 18) that barring an 11th-hour breakthrough in contract talks, Season 8 will probably be it for the show. They also said they wouldn’t want to do a ninth year without the full cast.
Harris acknowledges that money is a factor.
“The only way I think a Season 9 or any longer would happen would be [if it were] financially right — that’s the reality of it,” Harris says. “We love the show, we love doing it — eight years is a long time and we’re as happy a family as we’ve ever been.”
Season 8 of “How I Met Your Mother” premieres at 8 p.m. ET Monday (Sept. 24) on CBS.
