Okay, so the classic story plus supernatural element hybrid story didn’t do too well at the box office, considering “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” tanked over the summer. But maybe it’ll fare better with a fairytale instead of a historical figure at the center of the film. At least that’s what the team behind “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” are hoping.
In the first trailer for the film, which stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton as the famous siblings who escape a cannibalistic witch in a haunted forest (by the way, thanks for those childhood nightmares, Grimm Brothers), we learn that the titular characters have grown up to become full-fledged witch hunters. Hey, they managed to kill the one who captured them, they might as well use their skills to help others.
There aren’t any gingerbread houses in sight, and Hansel and Gretel are major badasses. You probably have to be if you kill the cannibalistic witch holding you hostage as a child. The movie comes out in early 2013. What do you think of the trailer?
