The fifth-season premiere of “Sons of Anarchy” will introduce SAMCRO’s new adversary, but there’s also a lot of unresolved tension within the club in the wake of last season’s events.
Season 5 picks up a couple weeks after Opie (Ryan Hurst) shot Clay (Ron Perlman) and set off a realignment of the power. Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is now the president — you can see the patch on his vest — but the old adage “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown” definitely applies here.
The photos FX has released from the episode are mostly tight closeups of SAMCRO members sitting around the table, but there are also a couple shots of Harold Perrineau (“Lost”) as Damon Pope, a well-dressed Oakland gangster who has it out for the club after Tig (Kim Coates) inadvertently killed Pope’s daughter at the end of last season.
Speaking of Tig, this shot suggests he’s pretty aware of the turmoil surrounding the club.
Clay, meanwhile, is still recuperating from his wounds, and it’s a struggle. He has to wear an oxygen tube — ironic, considering Piney did the same before Clay killed him — and is nowhere near the imposing figure he once was.
