Mark Abrahamian, lead guitarist for the band Starship, died of a heart attack following a concert Sunday night (Sept. 2) in Nebraska. He was 46 years old.
Road manager Scott Harrison tells the AP, “We had just finished the show. We were back in the dressing room eating. He apparently told the bass player he wasn’t feeling well.”
Abrahamian reportedly went into another room to talk to his fiance on the phone when he collapsed. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. An autopsy was conducted Monday, results are pending.
Harrison adds, “It’s a shock to everyone” and adds that Abrahamian had not mentioned any health problems to him, but he apparently had mentioned chest pains to his fiance, who he was planning on marrying in December in Hawaii.
Abrahamian had been playing with Starship for 11 years. He has also appeared onstage as the guitarist for members of various other bands, including Survivor, Three Dog Night, Kansas, ACDC and Santana.
Funeral services are pending.
