“American Horror Story” returns in less than week with Season 2, subtitled “Asylum.” We’ve now viewed the season premiere, “Welcome to Briarcliff,” and we’ve got some juicy tidbits for you.
Warning: Very minor spoilers, but if you don’t want to know anything at all, don’t keep reading.
As you saw in the already-released opening five minutes, Adam Levine
and Jenna Dewan-Tatum as Leo and Teresa go exploring in the old
Briarcliff sanitarium, which got its start as a tuberculosis ward. The opening scene is not the last we see of them.
For those of you were big Tate fans in Season 1, you will not be disappointed in Season 2. Obviously, Tate is not a character this season. But Evan Peters figures prominently in the world of Briarcliff in a very interesting way, so we can’t wait to see more.
Jessica Lange‘s Sister Jude and James Cromwell‘s Dr. Arden are not exactly simpatico as to how best to run Briarcliff. We know who our money’s on.
Lizzie Brochere is ostensibly making her U.S. debut as Grace, one of the patients at Briarcliff and we can say that we’re big fans after just one episode. She’s one to watch for sure.
If the tweeted picture from back in July and tease about “Bloody Face” has you super-curious about what’s going on there, don’t worry — you’ll find out. The story is laid out and Bloody Face himself makes an appearance.
We’re going to be able to add a “Silence of the Lambs” slide to our photo gallery of “American Horror Story’s” movie references — see if you can spot it when the show premieres.
So is the premiere scary? It’s more disturbing than scary, we would say. There are certainly a few good jump-y moments, but it’s more about characters and atmosphere than flat-out scares. It definitely is a bang-up way to kick off the season, though.
“American Horror Story” Season 2 returns Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
