The reviews of ABC’s newest drama, the deliciously soapy “Nashville,” were pretty much universally positive. Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere as feuding country stars? There is literally nothing unappealing in that sentence. Now that “Nashville” has made its official debut, viewers can finally weigh in on the new series.
As in any good soap, “Nashville” has set up a some great heroes and villains, and a few characters that operate in shades of grey. The biggest bad of them all has to be Rayna’s mogul father, who is manipulating her husband into a political career to serve his own interests.
Panettiere’s Juliette obviously has a mean streak in her, but we’ve already seen that the bad girl thing is mostly a defense against a horrible upbringing. Not to say that she’s truly a good person, persay — jury’s still out on that one — just that she’s a little more layered than you’d think.
Rayna is on the good side, as are adorable should-be couple (and duet partners) Scarlett and Gunnar. Scarlett’s boyfriend, though, seems pretty scummy.
In Zap2it’s review of “Nashville,” we said that “The worlds of music, politics and Southern hospitality collide beautifully in what is arguably fall TV’s best new drama.” Do you agree? Or would you argue otherwise?
