Today’s cuppa: Barry’s Gold Blend tea
Yesterday (Friday, Oct. 27), I posted a story on Zap2it based on an interview I conducted over lunch with Todd Hoffman, the outspoken gold miner at the heart of Discovery’s hit series “Gold Rush,” which launched its third season that night.
As you can see in the photo above, taken at our lunch location, the Luxe on Sunset hotel, joining Todd (on left) and I was his father and fellow gold miner, Jack Hoffman (on right), who shared a charming story about the impact the show has on its viewers:
“While I was down at Sea World, just before we were going up (to go mining), I had a black family — they had four children, man and wife — come up to me, and they said, ‘You know, you saved our marriage. And, you gave us hope. We’ve made it through the financial crisis.’
“I’m going, ‘What the heck did I say?’ They gave me credit for all of it. I said, ‘I’m happy that it happened. I don’t understand what I’ve done or what I said, just keep going what you’re doing.’ Man, they gave me hugs and stuff, even the kids.”
As Todd points out, you don’t have to be a perfect person to inspire others, you just have to try to stay on the right path.
“I want to be a good dad,” he says. “I want to be a good husband, and I want to be a good son. I want to be a good Christian. I really want to serve the Lord in the best way. Look, I’m no poster boy for the faith; I’m a work in progress.”
