Today James Bond turns 50 years old, but in our opinion he’s as sexy as ever. The British secret agent has been around for half a century and spent that time wearing many faces, sleeping with many women and being licensed to kill many people. But whether he’s being portrayed by Sean Connery, Daniel Craig or George Lazenby, it’s clear 007 has had a major impact on our pop culture.
A lot has changed since Connery first burst onto the scene as Ian Fleming’s iconic character in 1962’s “Dr. No.” Now we have bigger chase scenes, faster cars and trains smashing through the London Underground, but James Bond still looks great in a suit and likes his martinis shaken, not stirred. It’s because of that consistency that we find ourselves continually drawn back to the 007 franchise over the years no matter how old or jaded we get.
Oct. 5, 2012 is the 50-year anniversary of “Dr. No’s” first theatrical release, and the date has been labeled Global James Bond Day to honor the longest continually-running film series.
