The Hollywood Reporter reports that Johnny Depp is zeroing in on starring in “Transcendence,” the directorial debut of “Inception” cinematographer Wally Pfister. Reports say Depp will get a huge paycheck for the role — $20 million or 15% of the gross.
“I’m thrilled and feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Johnny. He is a creative and intelligent artist whom I feel will bring great depth to the character and the overall narrative,” says Pfister.
Details of “Transcendence” have largely been kept under wraps, but sources say to think along the lines of “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Inception.” The details that are known is that a man creates a computer that begins thinking for itself — and naturally it is malevolent.
Other names in talks for the movie include Noomi Rapace from the original version of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” and Christoph Waltz, who won an Oscar for “Inglourious Basterds.”
