Chris Brown has already made his statements about his relationship with Rihanna, but now it’s time for her to say her piece. The “Diamonds” singer covers Vogue‘s November issue, and addresses her connection to her ex in the magazine’s cover story.
“To the world, I feel like there’s no closure,” she says of Brown, who infamously pled guilty to abusing Rihanna while they were dating. “There’s some obsession that’s continued even throughout when we weren’t friends or couldn’t be friends at all. Hated each other. The world hasn’t let go. They haven’t seen any progress in our friendship, because they don’t see anything, really, besides the song.”
“The song” in question is a remix of “Birthday Cake” that sparked some controversy for the two musicians. Rihanna clarifies that the collaboration was her idea, and that she liked the idea of making a song with Brown because “it could be a little shocking.” If the remix earned her some negative press, Rihanna doesn’t seem to care.
“So now it’s a bit of a fascination, I guess,” she says. “I don’t know if people will stop soon, but I feel like as soon as they have closure to it, they will… But they’re not on the inside. They can’t see what I see, unless they’re sitting in my point of view. I guess I’ll learn to accept that.”
Rihanna’s new album, “Unapologetic,” is due out Nov. 19.
