Seth MacFarlane might have won over the Academy of Arts and Sciences, but he still hasn’t made fans of the Parents Television Council. The organization has long been out to bring MacFarlane down, and a new petition from the PTC is boycotting Sunday night’s premiere of American Dad.
The PTC is asking its members to file FTC complaints the episode, which focuses on an SUV that runs on carbon, oxygen and potassium. In true MacFarlane style, the vehicle is called the “Hummie C.O.K. Guzzler” and a suggestion is made to add another carbon molecule before the potassium so it could be “C.O.C.K.” The PTC finds fault with the overt reference to oral sex because “there are millions of children in the audience.”
“Is the man that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected to host next year’s Oscars telecast, following in the footsteps of such Hollywood legends as Bob Hope and Johnny Carson?” asks PTC president Tim Winter in a statement (via Entertainment Weekly). “In the past, American Dad and MacFarlane’s other programs have included scenes mocking people with Down syndrome, implying father-daughter incest, a man masturbating a horse, a baby eating horse sperm, and a character eating vomit and excrement out of a baby’s diaper.”
The PTC has been after MacFarlane for a while now, and in 2008 he responded to the organization. It’s clear that there’s no lost love between the two parties.
“They’re literally terrible human beings,” MacFarlane said, claiming that getting a protest from them is “like getting hate mail from Hitler.” “I’ve read their newsletter, I’ve visited their website, and they’re just rotten to the core. For an organization that prides itself on Christian values – I mean, I’m an atheist, so what do I know? – they spend their entire day hating people.”
