Taylor Swift is poised to have her new album, “Red,” go platinum in its first week.
Hits Daily Double claims that the new album, which includes the catchy single “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” looks “solidly north of 1 million in first-week sales.” Meanwhile, USA Today says Swift has already sold 4 million tracks from the album, and Billboard reports that “Red” sold more than 500,000 copies on the first day. That includes a record-breaking 160,000 units sold at Target and a boost from copies being sold alongside pizzas at Papa John’s, MTV News has learned.
This would be the second time the 22-year-old singer has accomplished the platinum-in-a-week honor. She also sold over 1 million copies of “Speak Now” when it was released in November 2010. It will be interesting to see if “Red” tops that album’s sales, which were later beaten by Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”
We still have a little longer to wait until we find out the final numbers on “Red’s” first week sales. They’re supposed to be due in on Oct. 30, according to Billboard.
