Things have gotten ugly in the days after it was revealed that “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter was removed from the custody of her mother following allegations of physical and emotional abuse. Though Winter has since gone back to work, both her mother and her brother have denied that the abuse really happened. Now Winter’s mother, Chrisoula “Crystal” Workman, is responding to the situation by revealing that she caught her 14-year-old TV star daughter having unlawful sex with an 18-year-old boyfriend.
Workman reported her daughter to authorities on Oct. 6, three days after Winter was removed from her mother’s home and placed in the custody of her older sister, actress Shanelle Gray. Though her mother is forced to stay 100 yards away from Winter, it seems like she’s influencing her life. Workman told police that Winter has been dating the older man for five months and she’s been trying to break the couple up, an effort that culminated in her finding them in bed together on Sept. 24.
“[I] caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand,” Workman tells Celebuzz, the outlet that unearthed the Oct. 6 police report. “I put a stop to it immediately. … I filed charges against him because legally he is an adult and if he wants to engage in adult behavior with a minor than he should also be ready to suffer adult consequences for his actions and poor judgment.”
She adds, “I will not apologize for protecting my daughter, as she means the world to me and I will always be there for her and I will always protect her to the best of my ability until the day I die.”
Yesterday Workman told People that the abuse claims are “all untrue.”
“I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused. … I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused,” she said.
