Brad Pitt might have chosen a career as an actor, but he actually also has a calling as an architect and designer. The “Killing Them Softly” actor has teamed up with Pollaro Custom Furniture owner Frank Pollaro to start a new career as a luxury furniture designer.
The news comes from Architectural Digest, who reports that the unveiling of Pitt’s new furniture pieces will take place Nov. 13 through 15 in New York. All in all, Pitt has created “about a dozen pieces” including a dining room table, chairs, a bath tub for two, one “rather fantastic bed” and a side table with a glass top and a metal base finished with 24-karat gold.
“I’ve been doodling ideas for buildings and furniture since the early 1990s, when I first discovered [Charles Rennie] Mackintosh and Frank Lloyd Wright,” Pitt tells AD. “Actually, I found Wright in college, when looking for a lazy two-point credit to get out of French. It forever changed my life.”
There’s no price specified for each item of furniture, but they’re not going to be for the casual consumer. Only nine of the “Art Deco ocean liner of a bed” will be made, each in a different material, so that should give you an idea of how pricy these Pitt-designed pieces will be. Some of the items might be adapted for “large scale production” at a later date.
