The law firm of Andreozzi & Associates, which represents the man who had made claims about the relationship, made an official statement on behalf of their client on Tuesday (Nov. 13): “He wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult, consensual relationship.”
While he has remained unidentified, the client — now age 23 — had claimed that he and Clash had begun a sexual relationship seven years earlier, when the accuser was only 16. Clash admitted to the relationship but insisted that it began when the other man was legally an adult.
Through a spokesperson, Clash expressed his satisfaction with this outcome: “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest,” he says. “I will not discuss it further.”
Sesame Workshop, the organization responsible for “Sesame Street” and the character of Elmo, did not say whether or not Clash would return to work in its own statement: “We are pleased that this matter has been brought to a close, and we are happy that Kevin can move on from this unfortunate episode.”
Will Elmo come back from this scandal? And will Kevin Clash be the man behind the Muppet when he does? That remains to be seen.
