Justin Bieber might love Canada, but his home country wasn’t returning the affection when he headed to Toronto to give a halftime show performance for the Canada’s football Grey Cup on Sunday (Nov. 25). When he performed in front of the Toronto audience, Bieber reportedly received boos for everything from a host saying he would be singing to when he took the stage to perform. That didn’t seem to faze him, though.
“Thank you so much Canada,” Bieber told the crowd during his performances of “Boyfriend” and “Beauty and a Beat,” according to the Associated Press. “I love you.”
He wasn’t the only one to receive a negative reception during the game. Carly Rae Jepsen also performed during the halftime show, but any boos for her turned to cheers during her performances of “This Kiss” and “Call Me Maybe.” Maybe the audience just had a chip on its shoulder over the fact Bieber wore ill-fitting overalls to accept the Diamond Jubilee Medal from the Canadian Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.
“In fairness to @justinbieber, I told him I would be wearing my overalls too. #cdnpoli #beliebers,” Harper tweeted Sunday.
