“Fifty Shades of Grey” might have started out as a “Twilight” fan fiction, but it’s not a story that Stephenie Meyer ever would have written. Her “Twilight Saga” stories are free of any sexual acts (though she does hint at plenty), while E L James’ erotic trilogy is rife with them.
According to “Twilight” scribe and producer, you won’t catch Meyer with her face burrowed in any of the “Fifty Shades” books any time soon. In a new interview with Access Hollywood, Meyer admits that the BDSM-laden love story between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele isn’t quite her scene.
“No, it’s really not my kind of book — not my thing,” she says. “But, you know, anytime somebody is out there being creative, that’s great.”
That’s not to say Meyer hasn’t read any “Twilight” fan fiction before. She says she felt like it was a training ground for writers, like James, to one day write their own stories outside of the realm of “Twilight.”
“I have read some fan fiction years ago and I found it really like, kind of cool. These people had these stories,” she said. “I felt it was a little bit sad that they were doing them in a way where [the stories] weren’t theirs, but I feel like all those people, they’re practicing and their going to write their book, it’s going to come out of them eventually.”
