AMC has given the green light to a third season of “Hell on Wheels” now that it has a new showrunner in place.
John Wirth, a veteran writer and producer whose credits include “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles,” “V” and “Nash Bridges,” is joining the series as executive producer. Season 3 of “Hell on Wheels” is set to premiere next summer.
Wirth’s hiring ends a six-week period in limbo for the show. AMC initially gave the go-ahead for a third season in late October, then backtracked a few days later when showrunner John Shiban followed creators Joe and Tony Gayton in departing the series. AMC then made the renewal contingent on hiring someone to take Shiban’s place.
