“Gangnam Style” might be the K-Pop craze that’s sweeping the nation, but Psy hasn’t always loved the United States as much as we’re loving him right now. The South Korean musician has recently come under fire for singing an anti-America song in 2004 that included lyrics along the lines of “kill those f**king Yankees,” and now footage of another performance where he sang out against our country has been released as well.
The above video is from a 2002 performance that Psy gave in response to two South Korean schoolgirls being accidentally killed by the U.S. military. He can be seen destroying a replica of an American tank onstage as his audience goes wild.
This leaked footage comes not long after Psy issued an apology for the 2004 show. “The song I was featured in — eight years ago — was part of a deeply emotional reaction to the war in Iraq and the killing of two Korean schoolgirls that was part of the overall antiwar sentiment shared by others around the world at that time. While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self, I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused by those words,” he said in a statement to E! News.
Apparently there are no hard feelings politically because Psy performed in front of President Barack Obama at the Christmas in Washington concert over the weekend. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, that event will air on TNT on Dec. 21.
