“Deception” premiered Monday night on NBC. The new primetime soapy drama stars Meagan Good as Joanna Locasto, a childhood friend of the murdered socialite Vivian Bowers. Joanna is now a cop and goes undercover on Vivian’s case because she has the past connections to the family. Now she’s on the trail of Vivian’s killer.
What did you think of the premiere? It certainly wasn’t perfect — there were some clunky lines and all sorts of stereotypes flying left and right, plus the show wasn’t quite soapy enough for us. But we thought there were some bright spots too.
Victor Garber (as Vivian’s father Robert) is always welcome on our TV or movie screens and we’re intrigued to find out if he’s a good guy or a bad guy — or some of both. As for a 100% bad guy, Tate Donovan is 100% creeping us out as Vivian’s brother Edward, so that should be fun to watch.
And the twist of Mia being Vivian’s daughter was a great addition to the murder plot — who all knows? We’ll stick around to find out.
We’ll also stick around because NBC just said at the TCA press tour that Season 1 will definitely reveal the killer and Season 2 will be about proving it, so it’s nice to know the show won’t be stringing us along with the mystery.
