Donald Trump, known for taking to Twitter to espouse his political views (and extend deals to the president), is not pulling any punches regarding the fiscal cliff deal that the government passed at the 11th hour on Tuesday evening (Jan. 1). The deal passed the U.S. House of Representatives 257 to 167, just a day after passing the Senate by an overwhelming majority.
Main points of the bill include keeping tax increases for middle-class households from taking effect, while letting tax rates rise on households that earn more than $450,000 a year. The bill also extends unemployment for 2 million unemployed Americans and delays spending cuts to the Pentagon and other agencies that would have gone into effect Jan. 2.
Trump tweets of the deal:
- “Obama and the Democrats are laughing at the deal they just made…the Republicans got nothing!”
- “I am a Republican…but the Republicans may be the worst negotiators in history!”
- “This is a terrible deal for the country and an embarrassment for Republicans!”
- “Does any Republican have the ability to negotiate?”
