It was only a matter of time. Once Taco Bell’s Doritos Locos Tacos became such a hit, it was a forgone conclusion that Doritos manufacturer, Frito-Lay, would eventually turn the tables. That day has come.
Frito-Lay, which is owned by PepsiCo Inc., announced Thursday that it will be rolling out Taco Bell-flavored Doritos to capitalize on the taco “craze.” Taco Bell has sold more than 300 million Doritos Locos Tacos since their introduction in March 2012. Soon, a Cool Ranch taco will join the lineup, as well as a Flamas taco, which will have a spicier coating.
According to the Associated Press, the new flavor of chip will be a combination of two current flavors, Taco and Nacho Cheese. Frito-Lay is also planning to release a Cool Ranch Taco chip at the same time. The chips are expected to hit store shelves in the Spring.
Luckily for everyone, Taco Bell’s owner, Yum! Brands Inc., also owns KFC. So, before long you’ll probably be able to order fried chicken coated with crushed Taco Bell-flavored Doritos, and the world can collapse in on itself, while you enjoy a Mountain Dew.
