According to the French paper, Le Parisien, the group of thieves entered Apple’s Paris flagship store on the Champs-Elysees about three hours after the 6pm closing time. Most likely gaining access when an employee left, the thieves then threatened a security guard so they could complete the theft.
The French police would not confirm the exact value of the stolen goods, but the press reported that a substantial number of iPads and iPhones were taken.
The timing of the heist appears to have been well-planned. During the robbery, the Parisian police were occupied with the many revelers who had crowded this central location for New Year’s festivities. In addition to the store’s prime location on Paris’s most famous shopping street, the Apple Store is directly behind the historic Paris Opera House. The thieves were thus able to escape without notice. Police are now checking nearby traffic and security cameras for information on the criminals.
