Hermione Granger is the No. 1 role model among film characters for young fans in the UK, according to a survey conducted by Netflix-style streaming and DVD rental company LoveFilm, along with Filmclub, a children’s charity.
The witty and studious Hermione, played by Emma Watson, received 19 percent of the school kids’ votes, followed by Willy Wonka’s Charlie Bucket, with 16 percent.
Rounding out the top five role models are Matilda Wormwood, another Roald Dahl protagonist, and Kevin McAllister, played by Macauley Culkin in “Home Alone,” and Dre Parker, the hero of “The Karate Kid” remake, portrayed by Jaden Smith.
A spokesperson for Filmclub says, “Films can have a powerful influence on the way children behave and interact with people around them. Characters that young people identify with tend to stay with them the longest and positive behaviors can be learned by watching the way that fictional characters handle certain situations on-screen.”
