According to The Huffington Post, Kanye West had better watch out for the Kardashian curse. If you’re curious what that could mean, just think about how much you like all the men who have ever been involved with a Kardashian, and you’ll understand.
Kim Kardashian‘s two most famous exes, Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, have both gone down in public opinion since she dated them, according to the “N-Score” algorithm that determines an athlete’s popularity. The same can be said for Khloe Kardashian‘s husband Lamar Odom, whose public persona has dipped a bit since they got involved. Then there’s Kourtney Kardashian‘s longtime beau Scott Disick who, though he’s not an athlete, definitely isn’t anyone’s favorite person since he rose to fame thanks to “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”
So will West fall to the same trap? Maybe, though we doubt he’ll ever again reach the low point in negative appeal that he hit after his whole “I’mma let you finish” speech at the VMAs in 2009. Still, West could lose some cred for the fact he’s now the baby daddy of a Kardashian, if he hasn’t already.
As Stephen Master, the SVP of Sports for Neilsen, tells HuffPo, “Between Lamar Odom, Reggie Bush and Kris Humphries, those guys have all had their N-Score hurt, and it isn’t because of their awareness. Their awareness has actually shot up, in every case, but their negative appeal has also shot up. You need to do well, and you also need to date someone who people like. The Kardashians are controversial. They have really negatively impacted the marketability of [Odom, Bush and Humphries].”
The real question is: Does West really care?
