Matt Ryan just can’t catch a break. After playing a great season, Matt and the Atlanta Falcons failed to win their NFC championship game. There goes his shot at the Super Bowl this year. Unfortunately, he won’t be headed to Hawaii to play in the Pro Bowl either.
The Pro Bowl is the NFL’s all-star game, and Matt was slated to quarterback the NFC’s team. However, The LA Times reports that he has been pulled from the game due to injury.
In the closing minutes of last Sunday’s game, when the Falcons lost to the 49ers, Ryan was tackled, spraining his shoulder. He was able to finish the game, but was unable to complete a pass and score.
Now coach Mike Smith says Ryan will need three to four weeks to recover from the sprain, making him unavailable for the Pro Bowl. He will be replaced by Seattle Seahawks rookie quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Pro Bowl takes place January 27.
